Robredo, Ljubicic win first-rounders in Rotterdam

02/20/2007 - Rotterdam, Netherlands (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Second-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo and third-seeded Croat Ivan Ljubicic were among Tuesday's first-round winners at the $1 million ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.

The world No. 7 Robredo pasted Italian lucky-loser Simone Bolelli 6-2, 6-2, while the eighth-ranked Ljubicic got past his doubles partner, Dutch wild card Thiemo De Bakker, 7-5, 6-3 at Ahoy' Stadium. The 2005 Rotterdam runner-up Ljubicic will meet Belgian Olivier Rochus in the round of 16 here.

Fourth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych was upset by capable Russian Mikhail Youzhny 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, while sixth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer avoided an upset by dousing last year's Rotterdam runner-up Christophe Rochus 6-3, 6-0. The Belgian Rochus gave way to Czech Radek Stepanek in last year's indoor finale here.

In other Day-2 action, German Florian Mayer snuck past Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 7-5 and Belgian Kristof Vliegen topped Finn Jarkko Nieminen 6-1, 6-4.

Also on Tuesday, former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt pulled out of the event, citing a right hamstring injury. The Aussie Hewitt was seeded seventh here and was scheduled to meet Frenchman Gael Monfils in the first round on Wednesday, Hewitt's spot in the draw was filled by Dutchman Dennis van Scheppingen.

The two-time Grand Slam champion Hewitt captured this tournament in 2004.

This week's indoor titlist will collect $193,000.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year.No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.

Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.
