09/28/2007 - Foxborough, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - When the New England Revolution and the Colorado Rapids square off in a Major League Soccer match Saturday at Gillette Stadium, they will be desperately chasing points for different reasons.
The Revs have their playoff spot clinched, but are chasing leaders D.C. United for the Supporters' Shield, while the Rapids are in 10th place, three points out of the last playoff spot.
Both teams are coming off disappointing results in their most recent league fixtures, with the Revs earning a draw at New York after leading late, and the Rapids falling to Rocky Mountain rivals Real Salt Lake 1-0 last Saturday.
"(Saturday's loss was) a very sloppy game. We couldn't find (the game) ourselves," Colorado coach Fernando Clavijo said. "There in the second half we tried, but it was never clean enough. We could never connect, we could never string more than three passes together. Thats the name of the game. I think the sense of urgency came out in the last 30 minutes of the game, and I told them we need to find that urgency at the beginning."
"It wasn't a particularly great performance (last week against New York)," Revs coach Steve Nicol said. "We had some balls where we looked half-decent and had some decent movement with the ball on the two goals. Generally, I don't think we played particularly well. We need points, and we didn't play that well."
The Revs should have star forward Taylor Twellman, who is fourth in the league with 14 goals, for Saturday's matchup. He suffered a strained right groin muscle against New York last week but is listed as probable on the team's injury report and was limited to jogging and non-contact drills during practice earlier this week.
"I think he'll be playing," Nicol told the Boston Herald. "Its just precaution when hes not doing so much training."
If Twellman can't go, rookie Adam Cristman, who has scored four goals and four assists this season, will get the nod beside Pat Noonan up top.
"Every time (Cristmans) either started or come on, hes been involved and done good things," Nicol told the Herald. "If he plays, then great, you know we're going to get good things."
The Rapids, who are winless in four, need the win to get back into playoff contention. Currently the club is just five points up on Los Angeles, which has a game in hand.
"For me, my biggest motivation is getting my team into the playoffs," Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul said.
After Saturday's fixture, the Rapids host last-placed Toronto FC on Oct. 7 while the Revs travel to Chicago for a league fixture a day earlier.

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.

Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger Sunday night and had a plate surgically attached to it Monday. Although Owens' hand was swollen and aching Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he's optimistic the receiver will be back at work next week and catching passes a week from Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
MySportsbook.com online sportsbook listed Terrell Owens with odds of 7-2 (or $7 paid out for every $2 bet) to return back for the game against Tennessee.
"I certainly wouldn't rule it out now," Parcells said, referring to Terrell Owens immediate return. "Maybe five days from now I might, but I wouldn't rule it out now. ... I know we're looking to try to get him moving around pretty good in the next day or so. So we'll see where we are."
Owens did not speak with reporters Wednesday, but said Sunday he'd be out two to four weeks. A return against the Titans would be 13 days after the surgery. The Cowboys were listed as an early -7 1/2 favorite vs. the Tennessee Titans for Week 4 at MySportsbook.com
