Flyers' Downie suspended 20 games

09/28/2007 - Toronto, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Flyers rookie Steve Downie was suspended 20 games by the NHL on Friday for his hit on Ottawa's Dean McAmmond that gave the center a concussion and knocked him out of action indefinitely.

The incident occurred at 2:39 of the second period when Downie hit McAmmond behind the net. Downie was assessed a match penalty on the play under Rule 21 for deliberate injury of an opponent.

Downie was automatically suspended until Friday's hearing.

He will miss the first 20 regular season and/or playoff games when he is a member of the Flyers' 23-man roster.
